BIRTHDAY WISHES for Monsignor PETER CANONERO
June 29, 2009
Dear Monsignor Peter,
All the Alumni of San Ildefonso College wish you a Happy Birthday on your Celebration of a Holy Spirit Mass today January 29, the Year of out Lord Two Thousand and Nine.
We lift to the Lord our ardent wish for your good health, happy life, and successful stewardship of our Alma Mater.
We raise to you our sincere wishes that your loving and loved leadership of San Ildefonso College sustain to the beyond the aspirations of her Alumni rooted in the traditions that founded, nourished, and envisions that all shall be for God Above All !
We humbly submit to you expressions of Alumni from different Batches in different Countries that as part of our united commitment to the philosophy of San Ildefonso College in pursuit of its thrusts on religious vocation and evangelization that the tradition of Catechism Teaching by SIC Students in Public Schools started in 1950 which was discontinued sometime in year 2000 be revived.
We humbly believe that this if granted will put San Ildefonso College in a unique path of growth propelled by the mutual upliftment of the students engaged in the catechetical teaching and a parallel attraction to those taught to enroll at the Alma Mater as witnessed by many in the rich history of S.I.C.
Some of these expressions are excerpted below.

Dear Babbie,
In the third paragraph of the "PHILOSPHY, VISION-MISSION AND OBJECTIVES" of San Ildefonso College from the SIC Students Handbook, it is stated :
: As a Diocesan School, San Ildefonso College operates as a service arm for the promotion and realization of the diocesan thrusts; religious vocation, evangelization and formation of the Basic Christian Communities.
This is what Ramoncito was referring to when he first raised the issue of whether catechism teaching is still being undertaken by Ildefonsian students as before as the translation of the evangelization thrust of the school.
While the output of San Ildefonso College in the thrust on religious vocation is praiseworthy as in the upcoming ordination of the Fr. Mhandy HS95 later this month, it should be noted that he was a student of SIC at the time when it is highly probable that the the evangelization thrust of SIC was practiced trough the teaching of catechism.
But these two are related and mutually supportive. The discontinuation of the evangelization thrust through catechetical teaching noted by Mark of HS2001 to have started in the year 2000 or so may weaken the Diocesan objectives of San Ildefonso College unless acted on now approximately 10 years after its discontinuance.
sicaa_communciation s as a positive forum of support for the Alma Mater hopes that by posting observations by alumni, the SIC Administration may consider them in their proper deliberations.
Thank you Babbie for bringing up the matter. Simply put the number of future priests may also decline unless a renewal of successful traditions are not regenerated as above discussed. The decline of the SIC enrollment may just be symptoms. I believe that Monsignor Peter Canonero is equal to the task as I gather from our discussions when there was a temporary labor problem at SIC which he so successfully healed.
One School. One Love. One Dream. One Vision.

All your posts which support the continuance of the practice of Catechetical Teaching in Public Schools, will be printed and submitted with a simple letter of introduction to Msgr. Peter Canonero, SIC President during the Holy Spirit Mass on June 29, 2009 as an expression of our wish that the existing policy on evangelization written in the latest Manual of San Ildefonso College be implemented following SIC's tradition dating way back to 1950.
It is a humble token of the same spirit of San Ildefonso himself when he went out of his way to the defense of the faith.
It would be appreciated if the others in our 338 member group can like wise express their thoughts on the matter. This is a direct translation in real terms of the Ildefonsian Vision : God Above All !

Re: Teaching of Catechism in Public Schools
94. Kasabayan ko po noon si Fr. Cris Pine, Arlene Resurrecion, Karen Pino at iba
pang Kamag-aral.

Here's another kuwento that I just remembered. You know how Judith has the most fertile imagination sa ating apat. Her imagination is always running WILD! That's part of your charm Jo & we luv you for it! Remember it was her idea that we should have our cars like Impala, Thunderbird, Chrysler, Plymouth ? also we have our candy nicknames I think Ellen ikaw ay si Lollipop. I just dont remember kung ano si Tisha at si Jo. What I remember vividly was we can't agree sa candy nickname ko and this is a matter of utmost importance for Jo that she had to take this issue sa kanilang family dinner discussion. Enter Mama Glory who like a fairy godmother raised her magic wand and said , Flor should be "Sugar" so the next day Jo told the grp sabi ng Mama si Flor daw should be "Sugar". I think it is worth mentioning that Mama Glory was very supportive of the 4 of us inspite of our kalokohan. Why not ? . We always did our homework/assignment s, our altar/catechism/ choir duties, we're mbrs of the Children /Legion of Mary, we got good grades... toot, toot =) ; not once na-detention tayo sa principal's ofc (miracle of all miracles) we took care of our little siblings (that's why I can't forget little Joaquin dinadala ni Jo si Jake sa bahay and we did our home chores (bago lumarga) di ba?
More stories to come esp Jo is joining us soon. Babbie, we finally hooked Tita and mcsicaa has sent her an invite.!

Natatandaan ko ang incident na iyon sa patio but I don't remember kung bakit. All I know is we're like 4 Musketeers all for one and one for all (sa lahat even sa mga intriga) remember when we have to have the same 'do kung naka headband ang isa we all have to have a headband; if we decided ponytail or even put our hair in a bun? shoulder length ang hair ko 'non but I had to comply I remember Ellen, you even fixed my hair para lang makapareho ako and would you believe I was a choir mem even though I can't sing let alone carry a tune! just bec ayaw akong iwanan ng tatlong 'yan. and the guava picking after teaching catechism? up in the tree w/ our checkered black/white uniform sa balalayka and at Auntie Adela's place in Wawa. sometimes I wonder how we made it thru HS with all our antics, shenanigans, mga kalokohan. Looking back some of them are just plain silly pero NAKAKATAWA =) They're all part of who we are today, di ba?

I agree with Gil,same here I'm just a simple Medical clerk here in America and as what Mon said, from the lowly clerk to the Managerial job that he had in a multi national company, I got nothing of those ,BUT I am living happily and peacefully with the help of our Most High.I can say that everything that happened to me is like a Miracle. All that I have now I asked from Him, and I know He gave them to me because of the Faith That i have in Him and Our Mother Mary, that was taught to me starting from our home, then followed up by the teachers in Catechism when I was in elementary, then continued when I entered the SIC in HS.I came from a poor family and I only have the love from them and from my son and from my partner now ,that I can brag of.Just be happy and enjoy Our lives the way it was given to us.BLESSED DAY TO EVERY ONE!!!!!!

Hello Mon,
I think I found the answer to your question: "Are there records on who or when the spread of evangelization for public school children started?"
In a document entitled "Record of House" prepared by the St. Paul Sisters, it is stated :
"Name of House : SAN ILDEFONSO COLLEGE, TANAY, RIZAL
Date of Foundation : May 17, 1950
Ownership (then) : Archdiocese of Manila
Nature of Apostolate :
Education - Grade School, High School, College, Catechetical Instruction in the Public Schools."
There....the Sister of St. Paul de Chartres started catechetical instruction in Public Schools in Tanay, Rizal way back 1950.

Hi Mon,
I will have to check if there are records on catechetical work at the Library. In this continuing research, the parallel time line of the different Administrations and Faculty will be correlated with records on enrollments levels, alumni achievements and the like. This would provide good policy making references for both the Alma Mater and he Alumni and can provide relevant thesis topics for Teachers taking Masteral Courses in fulfilling their and our mutually supportive roles. The need for institutionalizatio n of a unified SICAA from Pre-School, Grade School, High School, College and future Post Graduate Levels is ever becoming obvious to help assure a strong and sustainable S.I.C. Regards and again, Happy Mothers Day to All !

Freddie,
Are there records on who or when the spread of evangelization for public school children started? It must have started way before our class as Amor Tica told me that she was assigned sa Ilaya Elementary School then. We ourselves were assigned sa Wawa Elementary School, if I recall correctly, with Betsog, Alex Jarin, Beng Melendres and Ed Silvestre. I guess if you live in Ilaya you get assigned sa Wawa following the adage that "...no one is a prophet to his own community... " or the Paulinian sisters thought it wise to assign all pogi into one area, hehe.
Mon
In closing Monsignor Peter, again Happy Birthday ! Please accept our best wishes expressed as True Crusaders in the Ildefonsian Traditions.
